Lest we forget

Poppies near the Scottish Memorial in Flanders

This Remembrance Sunday let us not forget those who have given their lives for the peace and freedom we enjoy today.

Tyne Cot

Memorial at Tyne Cot Cemetery, Belgium

They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old;

Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn. At the going down of the sun and in the morning,

We will remember them.

In Flanders Field

In Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.

We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved, and now we lie,
In Flanders fields.

Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders fields.

So important that we never forget. We have freedom because of their sacrifice. So very humbling.

Those poppies are beautiful, and I love that poem! I love Remembrance Day. In the US, we call it Veteran’s Day> I’m not sure why though. It is Remembrance Day all over the world, and it is such a great reminder of those we have lost.

Thanks, I did see quite a few areas of poppies on the trip but this was the best bunch. I thought it was quite poignant how it was just beside the Scottish Memorial.
